How to create categories and upload files in DOCman?

Answer

Before you can upload any files to your DOCman you have to create one category (or as many as you wish) in your DOCman. To do so go

Components > DOCman > Categories > Add

Put all the information you want there to be (title, name, description etc.). Save. You can add more categories as well as subcategories. For categories you can set access level for public, registered users or special users. Note that in DOCman, special means Managers and above.

Before publishing anything in your DOCman make clear to yourself what you want to be public and what for registered users or groups. Then set the permissions in DOCman configuration. Note that you can set the permissions also when you upload the file and that you set the permissions only for documents not for categories.

Now you have to log into the frontend to upload files (guests can not upload). Go to your DOCman page by clicking the menu link. Click Submit file button.

  1. Choose the upload method, usually it is "Upload a file from your computer".
  2. Browse for the file, choose it and upload it.
  3. In Document tab fill in all the information you want, remember to choose the category where you want the file to be put into. In Permissions tab you can set who can download and maintain the document. If default settings are good enough don't change anything.

Click Save. You have to approve and publish the document until other users can see it.

Note that you can upload files to the server also in Backend. Go

Components > DOCman > Files > Upload

After uploading you have to make a new document entry using uploaded file.
